Trade-cover Rebind to Hardcover (Malazan Book 1 – Gardens of the Moon)

Finished Book - Endpapers

One of my favorite fantasy book series is the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. I always pined after the Subterranean Press editions, but at this time they are too overpriced. So what I did is set about trying to get my own set of trade paperbacks of the series and then convert them into hardcovers just like I like them.

The very first step I did was carefully break down the adhesive on the trade paperback after removing the cover with sandpaper. Once done, I re-enforced the spine with mull and PVA to add the extra bit of flexibility along with the desired strength.

Once done, I attached new endpapers and then prepared the spine and the front and back covers. For the covers I used marbled paper in addition with book cloth. I plan to keep the book cloth same for the entire series.

In addition I thought of gilding the edges with Auroschnitt and gold leaf. but that did not turn out as I expected, so I decided to just leave the Armenian Bole which was painted on as primer for the gold leaf on the top edge. I kind of like the look of the plain red along the upper edge.

Still pending is creating a wrap around cover for this book created using Affinity Publisher.

Papyrus Cover (Mixed Media) Sketchbook

Finished book - Handmade end Papers

Mixed Media sketchbook bound during the Covid-19 lockdown in May, 2002. Initially I intended to use leather strips to form bands along the spine that merge into the front and back covers, but decided against it as I liked the look of the papyrus with the book-cloth. It looked simple yet classy without the leather and I decided to let it be without adding the leather.

I hope it lends well for use as a sketchbook.

This book was bound at the same time with my first rebinding of a trade paperback.

Oracle Training Materials

I got the opportunity during my first job to train a batch of professionals working on other programming languages about SQL, PL/SQL, Oracle and performance tuning and how best to write high performing SQL code. I was chosen as I had quite the expertise working with PL/SQL. I managed to find a cache of some documents and training materials I created for those sessions.

I have attached them with this post today, but then please note other than the basic concepts there are new features that were non existent at that time and as such these are to be considered as historical.
